Helena Motaln

Helena MotalnResearch group where dr. Helena Motaln is involved is investigating stem cells in tumour progression. Recent models and experimental data point to cancer stem cells, as the highly resistant to all kinds of therapy.  Advanced cell therapy approaches should focus on cancer stem cells, whereas the delivery systems should reach the cancer stem cells niches in the tumour. Thus specific matrix mimicking the cancer stem cell microenvironment (ECM) should be designed for therapeutic application in cancer. Moreover, they investigate 2D and 3D interactions of normal and cancer stem cells at molecular level, which may give us some hints on stabilization, prevention to transformation and higher efficacy of therapeutic stem cell in cancer therapy.
