Miomir Knežević

Miomir KneževićOur bodies are made up of thousands of billions of cells that combine to create one of nature’s greatest miracles – life. Stem cells play a crucial role in this and are today successfully being used to treat a variety of diseases and injuries. Stem cells are a highly diverse group of biological cells that can differentiate into more than 200 cell types. They are found in almost all tissues and are activated whenever necessary. However, they lose this ability with the passage of time as they become increasingly specialised. My research explores the use of umbilical cord and mesenchymal stem cells in development of chondrocytes and osteoblasts for regenerative medicine and in development of in vitro cellular models for cytotoxicity testing.
